skiing, scuba diving, triathlon) to the passive (bird-watching

| How
did this thing get started? |
| FunspotPals.com
was conceived high in the mountains of Utah when
its two founders were relaxing after a day on the
ski slopes. They wondered if there was a way to
arrange a meeting on the mountain the next day with
a couple of ladies of similar skiing ability who
might like to ski with a couple of guys. They suspected
that, for all they knew, such a pair could be staying
in the very next room!
After a few failed inquiries with the resort's
concierge, they realized that despite all the amazing
technology and communications we enjoy in the 21st
Century, there was still no effective mechanism
for bringing together two such parties while on
a trip. |
| Two
ships don't have to pass in the night |
| After a little
brainstorming, they suddenly realized that two ships
didn't always have to pass in the night. There was
a way to bring together like-minded people not just
after they had arrived at their "funspot" but before
they even left on the trip. People who happened to
be going to the same destination during the same time
frame and planning to participate in the same activities,
could "meet" online either before they left
-- or after they arrived! |
| Searching
the calendar and the globe. |
| It wasn't
long before the full potential of such a site was
realized: people the world over could use this technology
to search both the calendar and the globe to find
others interested in doing their favorite activity
- and the activity didn't have to be just skiing.
There was no limit to the types of recreation people
could share in and their meeting sites could range
from the Mighty Himalayas to that dusty bike trail
across the street! |
| "It's the community, stupid" |
| After the first phase of FSP.com was launched in May of 2006, we realized that before Pals want to link up on trips, there has be an online community where Pals can get to know each other. We listened to you, the Pals and learned that the web offered the chance for a lot of content sharing and communication that didn't even involve going anywhere. Pals wanted to be able to share photos, videos and blog entries first and maybe meet up later on the bike trail, golf course or dive site. That's what inspired our current Phase Two launch that's only a few weeks old. Give it a look and let us know what you think! |
